What You See

ADAM DIXON

Lucky

Scenting our clothes

With my lit-up lucky.

Talking to ourselves,

But I hope you can hear me.

In our made-up world

With made-up rules,

You’ve got your pearls,

I’ve got my clues.

The smoke paints

The empty sky.

I don’t know how

We’re gonna end this night,

Cause you can’t swat away

Those fireflies,

And you won’t tell me

If you’re doing alright.

In this made-up world

With made-up rules,

They beat you blue

When they’re confused.

The smoke hits your eye,

You don’t feel lucky.

You wince, you cry,

You want to trust me.

Through line

Something about me is unconvincing,

I think I feel my through line thinning.

Cause someone else, unfamiliar

Is on the walls and in the mirror.

I want them back, those hands that carved me,

I want to understand all my markings.

I’ve starved in here, waiting for answers,

For something to tend or something to tamper.

Just watch the clouds

‍ ‍Disappear.

They move, they change,

Barely here.

The floor beneath me is soft and rotten,

There’s an awful lot that I’ve forgotten.

My desperate questions didn’t help,

I’ll never really know myself.

Now no one sounds the way they used to,

I’ve lost their detail and all their clues.

Still, you hold the sun against my face

And try connect me to my name.

You watch the clouds

‍ ‍Reappear.

They move, they change.

You’re still here.

Same Things

Tell me what you see

When you look up at the sky.

Do we see the same things,

Could you please just try?

Don’t go away from me.

Don’t go away from me.

I know the sky shakes,

It moves the white around.

So when the sky shakes,

Let it move us around.

Let’s go where the wind blows.

Let’s go where the wind blows,

It can take us over my old place.

It can take us over those old lakes,

Where I tried to teach you to swim.

I really want to see you swim

Towards me.

Towards me.

Let’s form with everything around us.

New friends, new car, newfound trust.

Let’s fall in love over again,

That’s how we’ll make it to the end.
