A cloud of mystery awaiting the light of truth.
‘Nasty looking sonofabitch, ain’t he? Yes, the corpse on the floor. Though, you aren’t much better, Rookie. Gabriel del Faro. Detective Gabriel del Faro. “Sir” to you. Call me Gabe and your dentist’ll move up a tax bracket.’
‘Enough of that. We have an afternoon to get through the body, the house and the witnesses before the brass is breathing down my neck. Get to work, Rookie.’

WOUNDS - DINING ROOM
Stab wounds: Neat, dry. Knife between the shoulderblades protruding perpendicular to the skin, like some brutal cake topper. Puddles of viscera across the room, intestines like wet, red yarn, teeth marks on an exposed rib… Something else piercing through the torn-up palm of a bloody hand. Assailant was strong, strong enough to drive the weapon into Kant's back.
‘Rookie, never assume strength when fear or hate will do. Besides, it’s not hard to drive a very pointy knife into a body already lying down.’
